Remember Nixie Tubes? Before there were LED's and LCD's, during the days of vacuum tubes, the way to present numeric data was using a 'Nixie tube' Nixie tubes used wires shaped like the numbers in a vacuum tube. When voltage (high voltage by todays standards) was applied to the number, it glowed a nice orange color. This clock is a tribute to those vintage tubes. If you have never seen a real Nixie tube in action, this may be as close as you get, Nixie tubes are disappearing.
